APPLICATION
APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN
Here is where we ask you to please post your applications. Applications will always be open at this time but will be reviewed each Wednesday. The latest an application should receive a response is Saturday morning. If there are any delays, it can be accounted to needing a second opinion or the mod is unfamiliar with your series and is asking for a second set of eyes.
We may ask that you submit a secondary piece of information (maybe an extended personality or a new writing sample) but chances are we won't. But should we ask that of you, we'll give you two days to do that from the time we respond.
Below is the application template we request you use, along with explanations for any first time roleplayers joining us. If you have any questions, please shoot them over to the FAQ page.

Ivan Karelin | Tiger & Bunny [1/2]

Currently playing: n/a
Canon: Tiger & Bunny
Character: Ivan Karelin
Character Age: 19
History: Ivan's proper history doesn't really start until he's in his mid-teen years. He lived a rather uneventful life before that point, and most of it's been cloaked in secrecy. But of course, getting unnatural NEXT abilities and getting enrolled in a special school for said abilities is just what changes it. The quiet kid with decent grades and minimal friends, Ivan spent a lot of his time alone at Hero Academy. As the awkward anime fan, he didn't normally reach out nor did he have a lot of people to get close to. He ended up with one good buddy, a boy named Edward, and the two spent a lot of time together. Edward became that friend he could trust, and Ivan rooted for Edward to become that star Hero someday in the future on Hero TV.
And then the Fire Nation attacked--oh wait, wrong show. And then some robbers attacked... a poor, defenseless lady on the streets, and Edward figured he and Ivan could take on the masked and armed individuals. But, in a fairly careless struggle, Edward ended up fighting with one of the robbers for the gun. And when he called to Ivan for help, Ivan stood positively petrified as the gun went off and the hostage was shot and killed. And Edward went to jail for murder, and Ivan holed himself up with his new internal trauma.
Years pass and Ivan becomes a hero! He spent most of his time in the background, focusing on getting the names of his sponsors out there and appearing in the background instead of on the rescue. It's not until he returns to Hero Academy and gets schooled in the purpose of being a hero that he really comes to appreciate his powers and his position. With Edward breaking out of jail to come after him, the two share a rather violent heart to heart as Ivan rescues him from the vigilante Lunatic and promises to put his heroics to good use in the future. After all, he and Edward are still friends, and he'll wait and visit until Edward is properly freed.
Unfortunately, this happy story has to tale a disastrous turn, as another criminal manages to blackmail his way out of prison. (Seriously, Stern Bild, you have a horrible time actually keeping your criminals.) But they end up encountering Jake Martinez, a pretty big baddie in the Ouroboros criminal syndicate, who held the entire city hostage by threatening to blow up the support pillars keeping it three levels above water. During the first scuffle, they managed to capture Hans Chuckman, one of Jake's lackies, and after they beat him senseless, Ivan went incognito as this man. Sadly, he was quickly caught and easily beaten to a bloody pulp, then sent rather haphazardly back to the other heroes. He spent the next short while in the hospital, waking only after other heroes had begun to take on Jake to give them a few details on how to defeat him and send his tattooed butt back to jail. Then Tiger and Barnaby saved the day and everyone cheered, yaaay! With that behind all of them, Ivan began to work towards getting faster and finding more uses for his powers, as well as being less of a background hero.
Personality: Ivan is a very reserved boy. Shy and quiet, he tends to keep to himself unless you appeal to his interests. He's very, very quiet, not just in words but in movements, seeing as he has almost 'ninja-like' capabilities. He's never had an easy time making friends, often stumbling over his words or having difficulty speaking out. Because he's so reserved, he's often overlooked and easily forgettable. It's to the point where he has an easier time communicating through body language rather than speech. He keeps to himself just because he's easier and he's very comfortable alone.
Once he manages to get a friend, he tends to latch onto them like a sad little puppy, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on the person. Because of the few friends he has, he treasures all of the ones he manages to make and quietly watches out for all of them. He's actually quite caring, he just has odd ways of showing it.
But once you get past that quiet boy who keeps to himself, you're introduced to a... peculiar young man. Ivan, in a nutshell, is a Japanophile in all the worst ways. He's absurdly interested in anyone and anything Japanese, branching from anime and manga to samurai and swordsmen. He's secretly taught himself the small customs, such as bowing, food etiquette, and proper suffixes, but there are still many, many things he still doesn't know about the country or the people in it. His knowledge is fairly limited in what he can learn from the media and googling, as well as first-hand accounts - which is why he loves meeting people who are actually from Japan and asking them every question known to man if they are okay with his questions (bless all these poor souls).
However, as weaboo-esque as he gets, Ivan isn't disrespectful with it. He honors and reveres this 'grand country of Nippon' enough that he will treat anyone from there just a little more special than normal. He's learned enough that he can conduct himself respectfully, and his collection of items is just a plethora of anime-related merchandise. Although he doesn't wear them often, this even branches into his wardrobe: he's got a decent selection of traditional Japanese clothing, from a yukata to geta sandals, and probably a few outlandish outfits like cosplay and sentai suits as well.
But besides just being a nerdy, off-beat kid, Ivan is first and foremost a hero. As the alter ego Origami Cyclone, Ivan uses his NEXT abilities in order to shapeshift into the appearance of other people. He actually spent years at an Academy meant for youths to learn to use their powers and, hopefully, become the heroes of Stern Bild and stars of Hero TV, the live television broadcast of their exploits. Unfortunately, due to not being able to replicate another NEXT's ability when using his powers, Ivan often feels like he's not as useful as the other heroes because his power isn't one primarily used for attacking. When compared to a group that can become stronger and faster or shoot the elements, being able to shapeshift into other people is definitely not a strong comparison. However, he's discovered that his power is actually rather useful, as he can use it for deceit and trickery, which makes him good for espionage missions. He's also able to turn into objects as well. Being quiet and ridiculously observant have also played to his strengths. But, being young and still getting used to this, Ivan's just barely coming to terms with the direct usefulness of his powers.
Instead, he plays up his popularity as being the notorious "photobombing hero" of Stern Bild. Because of his ninja-esque skills, Ivan's good at appearing and disappearing at a moment's notice. He can zip his way into action and disappear without being caught. He uses it to his advantage with his advertising company, often making himself visible as cameos in other heroes' grand entrances on television or, quite literally, bombing their photos with fans. In fact, it's so ridiculously known that his fans sometimes keep track or make it a game to find him or a piece of his uniform sticking out in another person's picture or video.
He's also got a collection of weapons, most of which he's actually taught himself to use through private lessons, the wonders of the internet, or through training classes back at the Hero Academy. From shuriken to samurai swords, he attends weapon shows and goes to low-key or hidden shops in random cities in order to obtain the odd weaponry. Then besides the weaponry, he watches ninja movies or sumo matches almost daily out of sheer fascination. And on top of all of this... he's also a nerd to the extreme. He keeps a blog. An online blog with near-daily columns and odd trivia, he actually gets upset and depressed when he's bashed, and he feels as though the fans of his blog are his far-away friends.
Thankfully, all that training sharpened his senses. He's actually quite fast, and coupled with a few years of martial arts, he can hold his own in a fight. He's also very good at throwing his weapons and fighting with them. Even though he doesn't go out of his way to attack people, he's good at defense... once he stops being shy enough to use them. The major down side of his skills is that he doubts himself a lot. Ivan's esteem is actually rather low: he doesn't think he's good at anything, and it shows in small ways. He's not good at making friends, so he doesn't normally go out of his way to do so. He doesn't think he's good at fighting, so he stays away from conflict. He gets nervous in front of tense situations when outside of costume, so he stands on the sidelines or becomes more of a follower when he's not needed as a hero. It's this sort of behavior that got him involved in an incident in the past, one of his worst memories - and it's this sort of behavior he wishes he could change. It was what resulted in his closest (and only high school friend) getting arrested for murder in an accident, and Ivan guilts himself about this constantly. He's working on changing, slowly but surely.

I wish Nai-chan can be my anime waifu. I found these pictures of her and she is my new wallpaper.
Has anyone gotten their Nai-chan body pillows yet? I pre-ordered mine but it didn't arrive early like the airship figurines did. It wouldn't have gotten lost in the mail, right? (゚Д゚) I hope not, I would cry so much! (/_\)
Well, Ninja Rock Box no. 7 is next, will review that in a few hours! TYVM see you all and have a slick afternoon, de gozaru!
SHU SHU!
- origami cyclone (⌒.−)=★
Third person sample: A hotel, huh... If he had known he was going to be whisked off to some awkward, unfamiliar adventure, he would have at least brought one of his figurines along. After all, they kept his house feeling homely when he was gone! And they all welcomed him when he returned. They were definitely a beautiful sight to behold when he came home from particularly hard missions, especially after Agnes got mad at him for messing up or being on the shows with little ratings--it's not his fault, most of his fans had class during the noon broadcasts!--and all he needed was a smiling face and cheery pop music with Engrish lyrics telling him everything was alright.
...maybe he should have brought a game system, or a DVD, or even one of his plushes... Anything to make this room less like a generic hotel. If this were an anime convention, this room would already be filled with the latest seasonal merchandise, even some of it arranged at the window. But it wasn't. And he doubted he signed himself up for this. After all... there was nothing going on here! It was just a boring hotel, and he wasn't even sure why he had arrived. But if he had a reservation here under his name... Perhaps one of his sponsors had set him up. A publicity stunt?
A boring, lonely, unfamiliar publicity stunt. He didn't even have his uniform! He didn't have anything Asian on his person, not even his shuriken! And with his call band out of commission and no one else in the room... This really sucked.
With a sigh, he crossed the little hotel room, fingers reaching for the curtains. Well, if he couldn't decorate the window sill with new figures, he could at least let in some sunlight. Ivan threw the curtain open, ready to take in the bright afternoon sight--
There were eyes staring at him. A pale face, contrasted only by blood, and dark, beady eyes staring right at him. And, um. Floating.
Ivan closed the curtain, his face contorted in absolute horror. That wasn't normal. That definitely wasn't normal.
...yep this was totally not his room, he had no idea what happened, he was going downstairs right now. One step turned into two, slow at first--he looked over his shoulder to see a crown of hair slowly sinking in--and he bolted for it. Lesson number two in all horror anime: if you want to die, don't take on the ghost.
ACCEPTED
Thank you and enjoy playing! C:
