Abilities: *Genius intellect - Riddler's very intelligent, challenging others (and himself) constantly with enigmas and puzzles. He's got a wealth of information gleaned about the regulars at Arkham Asylum as well, and can read people easily. He's seen pissing Dr. Strange off with only a few words!
*Master Hacker - Riddler's character has had a past of being a software engineer or designer or programmer, this manifests itself in the Arkham incarnation as being all three for his own means. He hacks Batman's communications system with ease time and again, as well as programming complex devices and death traps that he uses in his puzzles and conundrums. That said, his broadcasts are characterized by st-stuttering audio and repeating-repeating-repeating video casts with lots of grain and fluctuations that we assume are stylistic choices, or perhaps a by-product of being so encrypted.
*Eidedic memory - Riddler sports a memory photographic in nature. *Cane - I guess he has a stick he can hit people with if he wanted though. Canon point: End of Arkham City!
First person sample: [the monitor flicks to life, a slightly-wizened visage taking up most of the screen, almost like a child with their first webcam.] Hello there, Gotham, and how are you this fine evening?
Bored? Lonely? Sad? Well, here's something for the tortured souls. After all, they say bo-bo-boredom is a sign of an unchallenged mind.
So! A challenge you cry out for, and a challenge I will provide. Who's our lucky contestant, today? Or maybe he's just today's pathetic chump... [he steps back, then revealing a man bound down to a chair, struggling against bonds and a blindfold, in a barely-furnished room. The feed gets a little jumpy, and the camera shifts, picked up and zoomed in manually] Now-now-now riddle me this, ladies and gents, what's better than 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire', 'America's Next Top Model' and the classic, 'Fear Factor'?
[his voice gains a sinister edge, pitching low in place of it's teasing tone from earlier. the camera pans to a blinking black box on the fellow's chest] How about your old pal, the Riddler's new reality TV project, 'Who Wants to Live to See Tomorrow?' And yes, that's my final answer. Third person sample: Edward smiled, spinning his cane in one hand easily. The action soothed him, calmed him, gave him a focus. Not that he needed one, of course, but his mind was always busily ticking away, the idle actions gave ease to that. It was such a burden, he thought, being the smartest man in the room at any party, the smartest man in the room at any function. At least he ended up hosting most of his own, so it wasn't a big deal at all.
The puzzle-master flopped back into a well-loved green chair, collapsing in on himself with a slight curve of his lips. There, before him, a map of Gotham, tacked with his newest plan, rich with numbers and a small reference to the Ulam SPiral. He supposed marking someone as his 'prime' candidate was a good enough hint, at least at first. Upping the ante would certainly bamboozle anyone, especially mathematicians if he introduced another small variable. There was a chill down his spine at the thought! Edward jumps back up again, and smiles bright, swinging his hand back and tossing his cane to it, sliding his hand back with another spin. Yes, this would do nicely, and he was sure the Bat wouldn't interfere at least until he was good and ready.
Edward'd already heard rumours of a plot on the very same night by Two-Face, which could, very easily, very predictably go one of two ways. That was something he really was endeared by to the other individuals in Gotham's gallery of rogues. If they weren't at least on par with him, he could still enjoy their simple plots as distractions until he took the main stage from them.
answer: a really half-assed attempt at a joke
